A 26-room, 27,000-square-foot mansion in Winnetka officially came on the market on Tuesday for $28 million, making it the single highest-priced listing in the ChicagoChicago reviewsChicago reviews area.

Known as Le Grand Reve, the six-bedroom, chateau-style mansion, which is owned by commercial real estate executive Sherwin Jarol and his wife, Deborah, sits on 2.04 acres.

Constructed in the last few years and completed in 2008, the two-story limestone mansion was designed by Los Angeles architect Richard Landry.

Features in the mansion include six full baths, four half baths and a grand entrance with a two-story rotunda and Tiffany dome.

The property was unofficially listed with a $32 million asking price during 2009 but was not formally placed on the market — and thus in the real estate multiple listing service — until Tuesday, when it officially was listed with its lower asking price.

“The house is amazing,” said co-listing agent Timothy Salm of Sudler Sotheby’s International Realty.  “It’s definitely the trophy estate of the Chicago area.  There’s nothing else like it.”

Ronda Fish of Sudler Sotheby’s also is a co-listing agent for the mansion.

Nothing else currently on the market in the Chicago area comes close to the listing price for Le Grand Reve.

Villa Taj, a brand-new, 30,000-square-foot mansion in Burr Ridge, was listed last year for $25 million but later was pulled from the market. It later was put up for auction and then pulled off the auction block right before the event began.

Currently, the only other Chicago-area residential properties officially listed for $10 million-plus are:

–A mansion in Lincoln Park that is listed for $10 million;

Popular Glenview restaurant ablaze

October 21, 2009 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab Entertainment, Fab Local News

restaurantfireglenview.jpgFirefighters were battling a stubborn two-alarm fire at Matty’s Wayside Inn in north suburban Glenview this morning.

The restaurant, at 1727 Waukegan Road, has been in business for 80 years, according to the restaurant’s Web site.

Video from WGN-Ch. 9’s traffic helicopter showed flames shooting through the roof of the establishment and heavy smoke. The fire broke out about 4:15 a.m.

At times it appeared the fire was under control, but flames then began shooting out.
A dispatcher for the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System said that it had sent
in fire crews from Winnetka, Niles, Deerfield, Wilmette, Morton Grove
and Northbrook to assist.

The book “Images of America: Glenview “by BeverlyBeverly Hills reviewsBeverly Hills reviews Roberts Dawson
says the building that houses Matty’s was constructed in 1890 as a
farmhouse, and opened as a restaurant at the end of Prohibition in
1931.

Matty’s started out as a “blind pig,” a restaurant that served liquor illegally during Prohibition, according to the book.

Waukegan Road was closed to traffic between Lake Avenue and Chestnut Street.

The restaurant normally is closed on Tuesdays, according to the same Web site.
