Man Shot In Face, Flips Van, & Dies On 80th & Jeffrey!!!!

The driver of a van was shot in the face and killed in the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side early this morning. The van struck a tree and flipped over but the five other people inside were not injured, police said.

The man killed was identified this morning as Linton Goldsmith, 33, of the 2400 block of East 86th Street, according to a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Shortly after the shooting at 1 a.m., Goldsmith was found unresponsive in the 8000 block of South Jeffery Avenue, said Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

4 Shootings In Chitown Last Night

At least four people were wounded in separate shootings overnight on

the South and West Sides, officials said.

The first shooting happened on the South Side in the city’s South

Shore neighborhood, police said.

Officers responded about 8:33 p.m. to the 7100 block of South

Merrill Avenue and found a 33-year-old man who was struck in

an apparent drive-by, police said.

Preliminary reports said the man was walking westbound on 71st Street when a vehicle traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed approached. Someone

leaned out of the vehicle and fired several shots at the victim, police said.

The man was taken in good condition to Northwestern

Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to his thigh, police said.

About 11:15 p.m., two people were shot in the city’s

Longwood Manor neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers responded to the 1300 block of West 98th

Place and found a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man

with gunshot wounds.

Tragic: 11 Year Old Girl Killed By Van In South Shore

Police this morning were questioning a man they believe was the driver of a van that killed an 11-year-old girl in an hit-and-run accident as she was crossing a street in the South Shore neighborhood Tuesday evening.

Itali Hinton this fall would have been a 6th-grader at Beasley Elementary School, said a brother, Pariss Kidd, 19, who described his sister as “full of energy, full of joy.”

“She loved to read,” he continued. “She was full of life, she wanted to do everything,” he said. “She loved basketball and was just a great kid.”

“She was a beautiful girl, very well behaved,” said her mother, Tomyshuna Hinton.
