The most serious charge brought against Jason Shelly, of the 0-99 block of West 111th Street, was felony criminal damage to property for allegedly running into the squad car, police said.

He also was charged with two misdemeanor counts of aggravated
assault–one for allegedly aiming a gun at officers and one for ramming
his car into theirs. In addition, he was ticketed for driving without insurance
and driving on a suspended license.

The chain of events began shortly before 1 a.m. in the West Pullman neighborhood when the officers from the Calumet District pulled the suspect’s vehicle over for a traffic violation in the 12100 block of South State Street.

As the officers got out of their squad car, the suspect drove off, fleeing south on State. The officers returned to their squad car and gave chase.

One of the officers then fired at Shelly but missed.

Shelly then put his car in reverse and rammed the officers’ squad car, police said.

He then got out of his vehicle and started running, with the officers chasing him on foot. Police said he was arrested a short time later by other responding units.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

December 22, 2009 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab Local News

A 14-year old boy who was unaccounted for after a fire broke out in his family’s Darien home has been found.

The boy was riding his bicycle through the neighborhood, fire officials said.

Earlier, Tri-State Fire Protection District Fire Chief Shelly Gibson said she thought the boy had escaped but was not sure he had been overlooked amid the extensive fire damage in the home.

Eight members of the family had safely escaped the blaze that was reported about 2:30 a.m. in the 2½-story brick home at 138 Iris Road in the western suburb. But the boy was nowhere to be found.

The fire involved the basement and rear of the house.

It took firefighters about an hour to extinguish the blaze.
