Counterfeit designer-label items were seized and four people arrested when authorities served a search warrant on the North Side, ChicagoChicago reviews
police said today.
The search Wednesday afternoon at the business in the 4500 block of North Clark Street turned up “a large quantity” of reproduction consumer goods such as Coach handbags and Chanel sunglasses, police said.
Officers from a Town Hall District tactical team also found various mock designer labels and tools used for attaching the labels to merchandise.
Police said four people were arrested.
Chae W. Kim, 67, and Sun Kim, 62, both of Glenview, were charged with one felony count each of Unauthorized Use of Trademarks — More Than 500 Items. The other two people, whose names were not released, were charged with one misdemeanor each of Unauthorized Use of Trademark, police said.
The Kims had been scheduled for bond hearings today but court information was not available.

A Korean-American business owner from Wilmette was found shot to death in the trunk of a car near his Northwest Side store early Thursday.
Brian Choi, 55, of the 200 block of Heather Lane, was found by police about midnight. He was in his Hyundai, parked in the 5100 block of North St. Louis Avenue, around the corner from his currency exchange business.
He was shot once in the face, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The death was ruled a homicide.
The slaying shocked Choi’s Wilmette neighbors, who knew him as a hardworking businessman and devoted father of three.
“Who would do that to a guy like him, and why?” asked Maria Anast, 48, who for years has lived across the street from Choi. She described the victim and his family as “very nice people.”
Police said Thursday afternoon that robbery is the suspected motive and that no one was in custody.
They were reviewing surveillance images and interviewing people near his business and his Wilmette home to piece together where Choi was between closing the store at 7 p.m. Wednesday and being found shot five hours later.
Choi owned Foster Currency Exchange, 3443 W. Foster Ave., according to state records. Choi, a U.S. citizen, came to the United States from Korea about 30 years ago, was married and had two daughters and a son ranging in age from high school to early 20s, said a longtime friend and pastor, Man Heo.
“He was trying his best to have a really good life for his family in America,” Heo said in Korean, through his son, before entering the family’s home.
A surveillance camera on a church near Choi’s store may shed some light on the crime.
Ik Kim, assistant pastor of the Holy Nation Presbyterian Church, said the camera is capable of capturing activity along Foster in the direction of the exchange. Kim, 28, said police wanted to see surveillance images from Wednesday night.
Choi was working at the currency exchange when it was held up five months ago. Three men in their 20s, who didn’t display weapons, robbed the exchange about 11:30 a.m. July 27. That case is still open.
Heather Lyons, 37, who has lived above the currency exchange for eight years, saw Choi in July from her window, lying on the ground injured, and helped him.
“When I helped him out that day, I bought him a first aid because he didn’t have (a kit),” Lyons said. “He hugged me and thanked me for helping him in that way.
“I just stood by his side that day. I didn’t want to leave him until he was ready to go and report it.
“He was just a nice kind man,” she said through tears Thursday morning after learning of his death. “He never bothers anybody. He does his job, comes to work every morning, opens up the currency exchange. He’s friendly and nice to me and my husband, and to the neighborhood around him.”
She said Choi usually left the currency exchange when it closed at 7 p.m. She said an elderly woman had worked at the exchange with him, but Lyons had not seen her since the robbery in July.

In a new interview with Life and Style magazine, Kim Kardashian admits her family struggled to accepte pregnant sister Kourtney Kardashian rekindling her romance with Scott Disick, the father of her baby.
“When Scott came back into our lives, it was like Kourtney was asking us to forgive and forget everything she’d said about him. We were really confused. We had to readjust our feelings about him, and sometimes we had a tough time with it,” Kim reveals.
It was not just the past the Kardashian family had problems dealing with; Kim says it was Disick’s partying that also had them angry.
“I think he was just trying to have as much fun as possible before the baby came. All he wanted to do was hang out with his friends. He needed to realize that Kourtney and the baby had to come first,” she says.
So what finally changes the Kardashians’ mind?
“He just started trying so much harder. He put the crib together – no one asked him to,” younger sister Khloe Kardashian says. “He’s not a manual labor kind of guy, but for him to put the crib and changing table together meant so much to Kourtney.”

The federal government is seeking more than $1.5 million in back wages and benefits on behalf of workers at a company that transported U.S. Transportation Security Administration employees to O’Hare International Airport from remote parking lots, officials said today.
The U.S. Department of Labor filed the complaint against Total Enterprise Inc. and company president Kyong Kim and Vice President Frederick Kahl for alleged violations of the prevailing wage and fringe benefits provisions of the Service Contract Act. The matter is pending before the Labor Department’s office of administrative law judges.
Total Enterprise, based in Irving, Texas, contracted with the TSA in 2006 to provide transportation for TSA employees at O’Hare. The government’s complaint alleges that the company failed to pay required prevailing wages and fringe benefits to shuttle bus drivers, parking lot attendants and bus dispatchers. The investigation found that at least 120 employees of Total Enterprise are owed back wages and fringe benefits in excess of $1.5 million.
In addition, the department is seeking debarment of Total Enterprise as well as Kim and Kahl under the act. Debarment would prohibit the company from further contracting with the federal government for up to three years.
