CBS is breaking tradition by borrowing LL Cool J from its drama “NCIS: LA” to host its forthcoming telecast of the 2012 Grammy Awards. He’ll be the first to host the show in seven years.

The rapper, who turned 44 this week, has hosted the live Grammy nominations concert show each year since 2008, but this is his first time taking the reins of the award show itself.

“I’m thrilled to be part of Music’s Biggest Night,” he said in a statement. “I will always have fond memories of my first Grammy Awards and to now be hosting the Grammy show, in the company of so many other incredible artists, is a dream come true.”
