WTF: Harlem Gunman Shot 21 Times by Cops Lives

(Newser) – A 23-year-old New York man likely set a record when he survived being shot at least 21 times yesterday, the New York Daily News reports. Angel Alvarez and Luis Soto exchanged fire in Harlem before police arrived and sprayed Alvarez with gunfire. Alvarez was shot ‘in the arms, legs, abdomen, jaw,” his sister says. “He’s doing all right.”

“He had chest and abdomen shots,” Alvarez’s lawyer says. “It’s a miracle. They missed the heart and major arteries.” A forensic pathologist says, “More than 20 gunshot wounds is a record. Of course, the real issue is where you get shot. One bullet can kill you, but believe it or not, a body can survive a lot of bullet wounds.”

4 Shootings In Chitown Last Night

At least four people were wounded in separate shootings overnight on

the South and West Sides, officials said.

The first shooting happened on the South Side in the city’s South

Shore neighborhood, police said.

Officers responded about 8:33 p.m. to the 7100 block of South

Merrill Avenue and found a 33-year-old man who was struck in

an apparent drive-by, police said.

Preliminary reports said the man was walking westbound on 71st Street when a vehicle traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed approached. Someone

leaned out of the vehicle and fired several shots at the victim, police said.

The man was taken in good condition to Northwestern

Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to his thigh, police said.

About 11:15 p.m., two people were shot in the city’s

Longwood Manor neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers responded to the 1300 block of West 98th

Place and found a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man

with gunshot wounds.

Teen Shot Down At South Chicago Gas Station

17-year-old boy was shot and killed outside a gas station in the South Chicago neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Cojuan Harper, of the 2500 block of East 76th Street, was pronounced dead at 6:28 p.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Harper suffered multiple gunshot wounds, he said.

According to Chicago police, Harper was gang-affiliated, but the motive for his slaying wasn’t known.

The shooting happened about 5:40 p.m. in the 2900 block of East 83rd Street.
