Police Looking For BMW Linked To Triple Homicide

March 03, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab Local News

Police searched a stretch of rural highway in northern Florida early this morning for a dark-colored BMW that may be linked to the shooting deaths of three family members in their Darien home.

But officials reported back to Darien police that they had found nothing. “They gave us a location where the car may be located. We checked every location in the area and haven’t found anything,” said Hamilton County Sheriff J. Harrell Reid.

Darien police contacted his department “sometime after midnight” to be on the look-out for a 1994 BMW with Illinois plates near county road 150 in Hamilton County, which is in northern Florida. The alert from Darien advised officers to use caution if approaching the car.

Carmaker sued over accident in St. Charles

February 06, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab Local News

A 23-year-old St. Charles resident who had an accident in a rented 2010 Corolla is suing Toyota Motor Corp. over the sticking-gas-pedal issue that prompted a massive recall by the automaker.

The lawsuit, filed Friday in Cook County Circuit Court by Ed Izenstark, is asking for damages in excess of $50,000 following a Dec. 26 crash in St. Charles. The suit is the first one filed in Cook County in connection with Toyota’s recalls, Izenstark’s attorney, Robert Langendorf, believes.Izenstark rented the car from a ChicagoChicago reviewsChicago reviews-area Hertz and crashed into another car at 7th and West Main streets in St. Charles, injuring him and another passenger, according to the complaint. The suit alleges that his gas pedal stuck and he was unable to stop the vehicle.

Izenstark referred questions Friday to Langendorf. A spokesman for Toyota said the company does not comment on pending litigation.

Since fall, Toyota has recalled 5.3 million vehicles in the U.S. because it said certain types of floor mats could entrap the gas pedal, causing unintended acceleration. It also has recalled 2.3 million vehicles because it said a defect could cause the gas pedal to stick, also resulting in sudden acceleration. About 1.7 million of the vehicles cited in the recalls, including the 2010 Corolla, need to have both problems fixed.

The complaint also alleges negligence by Hertz for continuing to rent the vehicle after the initial floor mat recall.

No one at Hertz could be reached for comment late Friday.

Gustave Tucker Jr. offered to take his cousin Armaria Thompson to her home from a cousin’s house, said Tucker’s father, Gustave Sr.

But ride ended tragically when the Cadillac the younger Tucker was driving crashed into a concrete column of a viaduct near Dauphin Avenue and 107th Street on the Far South Side about 2:15 a.m. Thursday, police said.

ChicagoChicago reviewsChicago reviews firefighters removed Tucker, 20, from the car and paramedics performed CPR on him at the scene. Two witnesses said they removed the 2-year-old Armaria from the car and took her to a nearby apartment until paramedics arrived.

crash_victims_300cap.jpgDavid Matthews, 29, a graphic designer, said he was sitting at his computer when he heard a loud boom. After calling 911, he went outside and saw the car smashed against the viaduct.  He said the car was crushed all the way to the back seat.

Terrance Bertrand was driving nearby when he saw the Cadillac under the viaduct.

“I saw a car parked in the middle of the viaduct, but when I pulled up I saw a man lying in the driver’s seat,” Bertrand told WGN-Ch.9. “I think he was dead. And then as I checked, I saw a baby in the back seat.”

Bertrand grabbed the girl’s legs while Matthews took hold of her arms and they managed to slip the girl out the passenger-side back window.

He took the girl to his house and placed her on his guest bed. She was gasping for air, he said.

Emergency crews arrived two minutes later, Matthews said.  He took the girl out to them, and they tried to resuscitate her, he said.

Armaria and Tucker were rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Centerin Oak Lawn, where they were pronounced dead.

Armaria’s mother, Ashley Thompson, 19, said the girl loved to dance and sing gospel songs. “She was real silly,” Thompson said.

She said she had placed Armaria in the care of her father during the week while she took classes at Malcolm X College.  She last spoke to Armaria on Tuesday.

“She said ‘I love you Mommy.’ I’ll be home real soon,” Thompson said.  “She was the only thing in life I had to live for. Now I can’t get it back.”

Tucker, of the 6400 block of South Carpenter Street, had left his home Wednesday night to takea cousin to O’Hare International Airport, his father said.  On the way back, they stopped at another cousin’s house, where Tucker was given the keys to the car and was asked to take the girl home, Tucker said.

Tucker’s father said the early morning errand was typical of the role he played in the family, often being asked to take care of the children and doing favors.

FANTASIA BOYFRIEND’S WIFE IS SUING HER Per ANTI-JUMPOFF Law !

February 02, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab Entertainment

fantasia

I was driving in my car this morning and when I heard this one over
the radio and was completely shock, I had no idea laws like this exist and if this became a nation wide law, alot of bishes would be
f*cked up. Can you imagine how much money these wives would be hauling in:

According to “http://kissdetroit.com/topic/fantaseeblu/rumor-fantasia-may-get-sued-by-boyfriend%E2%80%99s-wife/” target=”_blank”>online
sources , Antwaun Cook’s estranged wife is seriously contemplating bringing a lawsuit against

for stealing
her husband, and she’s exploring using North Carolina’s anti-jumpoff law to bring it.

Here’s what they’re saying:

Only 7 states have what we’re referring to as the
ANTI-JUMPOFF law (in legal circles it’s called “criminal conversion”), the states are
North Carolina, Illinois, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Mexico, South Dakota and Utah.

But here’s why North Carolina’s anti-jumpoff law is so EFFECTIVE. Unlike the traditional
“Alienation Of Affection” law, a jumpoff has virtually NO DEFENSE to a lawsuit brought under the ANTI-JUMPOFF law. For
example, the jumpoff CAN NOT claim that they didn’t know the other person was married, or that the married man WAS SEPARATED
from his wife, or that the wife was ALSO BEING UNFAITHFUL.

Word is under North Carolina’s law, if the wife can prove that she was VALIDLY married and
that her husband had SEX with his jumpoff, then the jumpoff is AUTOMATICALLY liable for damages. And North Carolina courts have
offered BIG JUDGMENTS against jumpoffs. For example, in 2001 a jury awarded a distraught spouse $1.4 MILLION under the
anti-jumpoff law.

WHat do you think?

‘He just came at us.’ Mom loses son, 2 friends in crash

February 02, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab Local News

_victims612.jpg

Amy Alanis barely saw the car speeding at them with its lights off.

“He just came at us,” she said through tears from her hospital bed this morning. “It was coming too fast.”

The car was fleeing another accident blocks away, police said, when it rammed their Honda, killing her 13-month-old son Joshua Jr. and two of her friends all in the back seat.

“Aldo (Maldonado) flew out the window and died, and my son flew out the back window and died instantly,” she said, breaking down. “Orlando (Rodriguez) just died slowly in the car.”

Her boyfriend Joshua Molina was behind the wheel and was not seriously hurt. Alanis, 20, said she pulled herself from the wreckage. “I was dragging out of the car because the air bag hit me pretty hard,” she said.

Alanis said they were headed north on Cicero about 9:30 p.m. Monday and were about to make a left turn onto Parker to drop Maldonado off at his home on Parker and Laverne after having gone out for dinner. That’s when she saw a Toyota Camry speeding south on Cicero, heading straight for them.

She said the car appeared to have front-end damage and its headlights were not on.

“My [fiancé] couldn’t swerve or anything, he had nowhere to go,” said Alanis.”He just came at us and wrecked our car.”

Witnesses told police the Toyota had been going “extremely fast,” according to Police News Affairs.

The Toyota had just been involved in a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Belmont and Cicero where he rear-ended a Ford Expedition, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez. No one was hurt in that accident, Perez said.

Before anyone could notify police about that accident, the Toyota fled the scene, Perez said.

The driver of the Toyota — a 55-year-old Skokie man — was ticketed for leaving the scene of an accident and driving too fast for conditions in connection with the first accident.

In the second accident, he was ticketed for negligent driving. A police source said toxicology tests are pending for the driver and police were continuing to question him.

Alanis said her son was in a car seat flanked by Maldonado and Rodriguez in the back seat.

“He just turned 1, he was a funny baby, he always smiled, he was just alert and he was just learning how to give kisses and hugs.” The family called him J.J.

Little Joshua was a Christmas baby. Alanis was rushed to the hospital on Christmas Eve a year ago and Joshua arrived the next day.

His uncle said Joshua had just learned to walk by his birthday and had recently learned to run. “He was full of life, he just loved running around,” said Jose Alanis. “He was still trying to catch his balance.”

Joshua was taken to Children’s Memorial Hospital, where he died at 11:39 p.m.

Rodriguez, 20, whose address was not available, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:43 p.m. Maldonado, 21, was pronounced dead at the Cook County medical examiner’s office at 1:05 a.m. today.

The driver of the Toyota — who is not being identified because he has not been criminally charged — was on his way to pick up his girlfriend from her job, said a relative.  The relative said she was surprised to hear about the crash. She said the man “no smoke, no drink.”

The man’s driving record has been spotless since receiving his license in 1999, officials said.

Four victims in Crest Hill crash identified

January 30, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab Local News

pintobejaranokavanagh.jpgFour men ranging in age from their early 20s to their 30s died this morning after a car flipped over in a crash in Crest Hill, officials said.

The Will County Coroner identified the victims as: Adolfo Bejarano, 22, of Romeoville; Shaun M. Kavanagh, 30, of Plainfield; Anthony A. Maniscalli Jr., 27, of Channahon; and Juan C. Pinto, 32, of Romeoville.

All were declared dead on scene off Weber Road, one-quarter mile north of Map Road, in Crest Hill, according to the coroner. Initial post-mortem examinations indicated that they all died from injuries sustained in the motor vehicle crash. The determination of cause and manner of death is pending traffic, autopsy and toxicological reports.

A family member of one of the victims said today they were friends who had grown up together in Romeoville.

Speed appears to have been involved in the crash, but a final determination on the cause will depend on an accident reconstruction being conducted by the Illinois State Police, said Crest Hill Police Chief Dwayne Wilkerson.

About 1:30 a.m., paramedics and police were called to the scene of the crash in the 2000 block of Weber Road, said Crest Hill Police Sgt. Anthony Rossetti.

When police arrived, they found that a black 2005 Lexus ES330 had flipped over, and the four men in the car appeared dead, according to a release from Rossetti. The paramedics who arrived on scene a few minutes after police confirmed that all four had died, Rossetti said.

The car appears to have left the roadway, gone between two telephone poles, flipped over and hit a tree about 50 feet from the road, Wilkerson said. Three of the men in the car were wearing seatbelts; the fourth was not and was partially ejected, he said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation with the assistance of the Illinois State Police. Speed appears to have been involved in the crash, and although toxicology tests will be done as a routine part of the Will County Coroner’s investigation, there is no indication that alcohol was involved, Wilkerson said.

Investigators are looking at possible equipment malfunction, but that also is standard procedure in any accident reconstruction, according to state police. Such reconstructions typically take two to three weeks, Wilkerson said.

“Thinking back, a part of me was like, ‘That was really crazy,’” said Coffey, 22, who was thrown from the car on Sunday but suffered only minor scratches.

Two suspects, Pierre Seawood, 30, of Prospect Heights, and Gaspare Braccioforte, 29, of Wheeling, were charged Monday with aggravated robbery in Coffey’s purse snatching near Racine Avenue and Roosevelt Road, University of Illinois at ChicagoChicago reviewsChicago reviews police said. The two were also charged with strong-arm robbery for a separate incident earlier Sunday in the 1900 block of West Taylor Street, a UIC spokesman said.

Coffey said she was wearing headphones as she walked Sunday afternoon near her apartment when the purse snatcher struck. The thief warned that he had a gun, she said, but “it looked like a piece of wood painted black.”

Coffey put up a fight, she said, but the robber fled with her purse and jumped into a car driven by another man. She gave chase and tried to get in the car, Coffey said, but the driver took off down the wrong side of the street with the door open. She was still clinging to her purse as the car began moving.

“I was half in, half out,” she said. “They were dragging me about half a block.”

Coffey said she held on until the driver started to speed up, causing her to fall off the side of the car. Her thick winter clothing cushioned her fall and protected her from more serious injuries, she said.

All the commotion drew the attention of about a half-dozen bystanders who provided details about the car to the police, she said.

“I probably shouldn’t have jumped into the car, but that’s probably what got everyone’s attention,” she said.

Coffey believes the police wouldn’t have been able to catch the robbers without the help of the witnesses because she couldn’t remember much detail.

“I was shaking. I could barely talk,” she said. “It was amazing how much everyone helped. … People usually don’t stop and speak up and say what happened. They say, ‘It’s not my problem.’ “

Coffey, a certified hypnotist who helps people lose weight or stop smoking, said she’d never been the victim of a crime and had only a moment to decide how to react when her purse was grabbed. She had just deposited money in her bank account and didn’t want the robbers to gain access to it.

“So I snapped, pretty much,” she said.

She said she believes the robbers targeted her because she was wearing headphones and appeared oblivious to her surroundings.

While suspects were arrested in this case, UIC spokesman Bill Burton said police advise against chasing after robbers.

UIC police strongly recommend complying with an offender whose intent appears to be property or valuables,” he said in an e-mail. “UIC police recommend RESISTING a demand to enter a vehicle with an offender who appears bent on violence.”

Despite potentially endangering herself, Coffey said she never got back her purse because the suspects apparently threw it away. She lost her driver’s license, keys, about $20 and other valuables.

“I’ve got to get a new everything,” she said.

‘Save Our Saabs’ convoy stops in Schaumburg

January 24, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab Local News

Saab owners pride themselves on being quirky, like their cars.

“I don’t want to drive a (Toyota) Camry. If I had one, I would probably drive it off of a cliff,” said Kevin Wright, who is part of a dual-Saab driving household. “I like the option of having a car that’s different than everyone else. We hate the idea of something that has a bit of originality going by the wayside.”

Wright, who is a chauffer, and his wife, Colette Gabriel, were among more than 80 Saab owners who converged on an IKEA parking lot today to show their support for the ailing brand. Enthusiasts from across the Midwest travelled to Schaumburg as part of a worldwide “Save Our Saabs” convoy. They commiserated around their diesel hatchbacks, sensible wagons and sporty drop tops to sob about the potential loss of Saab.

The Swedish brand faces the axe from parent company General Motors, which has been trying to unload it for months. A proposed deal with Swedish carmaker Koenigsegg fell through late last year.

Yet, the closure of Saab may still be averted if GM agrees to sell the unit to Dutch luxury car manufacturer Spyker. There were reports as recently as this weekend that the last-minute offer could lead to a provisional agreement as early as Monday.

Frank Tornabene, a Saab owner and security guard at the Downers Grove Saab dealership, coordinated Sunday’s rally. He said a buyer for Saab could mean the preservation of 5,000 jobs in the U.S. and 20,000 jobs worldwide. After assembling in the IKEA parking lot, people who fix, sell and own Saabs drove a four-mile loop in the northwest suburbs to show their love of the brand before it becomes extinct.

Paul Deutsch, 38, bought his 9-3 Saab wagon in November, knowing things were in flux with the car manufacturer. He started looking at cars in February and kept coming back to Saabs. Deutsch and his wife, Sallie Cunningham, both drove two hours from Madison to be a part of the protest. She was behind the wheel of their 1998 Saab 900-S.

Although Deutsch and Cunningham still own a 1996 Honda Civic, which has more than 200,000 miles on it, they said they wouldn’t buy another one. They prefer Saabs, which Deutsch views as “a thinking person’s car.” (Full disclosure: this story’s author owns a Saab.)

Saabs are sophisticated, without being ostentatious, like BMWs, its owners said. The cars also are understated and sensible, without the soccer mom cache of Volvos. Saab’s unique appeal, however, may be the very reason the brand is under the threat of being shut down.

Founded as an aircraft manufacturer in 1937, Saabs were born from jets, as the company’s ads say. Yet the cars have has long motored on the periphery of the auto world. From its first production vehicles in 1949 to its iconic hatchback launched in the 1970s, its cars fostered an enthusiastic, if limited, following, with U.S. sales peaking at about 48,000 in 1986.

GM acquired a 50 percent stake in Saab in 1989, buying up the balance in 2000. After two decades of languishing under the GM banner, reviving the cult following of its devotees may prove challenging.

Since the 1980s David Brezina has purchased Saabs to match his changing lifestyle. His first Saab was a 1981 900 Turbo. He bought a 1987 four door when he had young children and a turbo convertible the next year when he had a mid-life crisis, he said. Brezina, 56, still has that one.

His last Saab purchase was less than two years ago, and he plans to drive it into the ground too.

“They’ve always had leading-edge technology,” he said. “There’s nothing like it. I hope they live on.”

Bribery charges in shooting of 4-year-old

January 21, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab Local News

Relatives of a man accused of shooting a 4-year-old boy earlier this month while aiming for his father have been arrested for trying to bribe the victim’s father to not cooperate with the police investigation.

Vincente Herrera, 62, of Lincolnwood, and Hector Herrera, 36, of the 4300 block of North Francisco Avenue in ChicagoChicago reviewsChicago reviews, were each charged with bribery and communication of a witness, both of which are felonies, Chicago police said this morning.

The elder Herrera is the father of 26-year-old Juan Herrera, who is accused of shooting the boy near Belmont and Long avenues on the Northwest Side Jan. 6. Hector Herrera is Juan’s brother.

Juan was charged in the shooting with aggravated battery of a child with a firearm, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharged of a firearm from a vehicle and aggravated discharged of a firearm from a vehicle near a school.

Abut 7:20 p.m. Jan. 6, the boy was sitting in a car with his father when a dark-colored vehicle approached, police said. The two are scheduled to appear in bond court later today.
