WYCLEFS REACTION TO CHLD TRAFFICKING IN HAITI

February 04, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab America, Fab Entertainment

wyclef_jean

In light of the tragedy in Haiti, a new problem is rising in the capital of Port Au Prince, human trafficking.

Ten Americans were arrested Sunday on charges of human trafficking after Haitian officials say they tried to take 33 Haitian children
ranging in age from 2 months to 12 years to the Dominican Republic without proper documentation and permission.

Now outraged about the turmoil racking his country, Wyclef Jean released a series of angry tweets denouncing the traffickers saying,

“My message to the child traffickers n Haiti I give you my word we will hunt you Down one by one, and you will be
judge(d) with no Mercy!”

The civilians accused of trafficking are part of a Baptist church in the U.S. and maintain that they were trying to save abandoned
and orphaned children and planned to relocate them to safety.

They are being held at a government building until officials determine if they should go before a judge.

Haiti’s government has halted all adoptions for the time being unless the adoption plans were set in motion before the quake.

“Share Your Soles” Charity Haiti Relief Effort

February 03, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab America, Fab Events, Fab Kids, Fab Local News

In life we cross paths with different types of people, some leave great impressions that you will remember for a lifetime. Mona Purdy at “Share Your Soles” is truly one of those people. I heard about her charity from one of my co-workers. We all gathered shoes to donate. When I arrived at the donation center I couldn’t believe my eyes. There were shoes as far as the eye could see, & believe me when I say this place is huge. It’s hard to believe that one person’s perseverance led to this great accomplishment. I mean she started this charity in her garage 11 years ago. ” Share Your Soles” accomplishments are awesome, but I would like to also say

with so many people in need shipping costs have increased.

At this point in time “Share Your Soles” is in need of monetary

donations to ship shoes to Hati, and other countries that need them. Volunteers are also welcome to come help out.

Here are a couple of pictures I took during my visit:)

And remember every little bit helps!

2010 McNeil Recall: Motrin, Tylenol, Benadryl, More Recalled

Press Release

MCNEIL CONSUMER HEALTHCARE ANNOUNCES VOLUNTARY RECALL OF CERTAIN OVER-THE-COUNTER (OTC) PRODUCTS IN THE AMERICAS, UAE, AND FIJI

Fort Washington, PA (January 15, 2010) In consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), McNeil Consumer Healthcare,
Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc., is voluntarily recalling certain lots of OTC products in the Americas, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and
Fiji (FULL RECALLED PRODUCT LIST BELOW). The company is initiating this recall following an investigation of consumer reports of an
unusual moldy, musty, or mildew-like odor that, in a small number of cases, was associated with temporary and non-serious
gastrointestinal events. These include nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, or diarrhea. This precautionary action is voluntary and has been
taken in consultation with the FDA.

Based on this investigation, McNeil Consumer Healthcare has determined that the reported uncharacteristic smell is caused by the
presence of trace amounts of a chemical called 2,4,6-tribromoanisole (TBA). This can result from the breakdown of a chemical that is
sometimes applied to wood that is used to build wood pallets that transport and store product packaging materials. The health effects of
this chemical have not been well studied but no serious events have been documented in the medical literature. A small number of the
product lots being recalled were associated with the complaints of an unusual moldy, musty, or mildew-like odor, and some of these lots
were found to contain trace amounts of TBA. In December 2009, McNeil Consumer Healthcare also recalled all lots of TYLENOL® Arthritis
Pain 100 count with EZ-OPEN CAP related to this issue. McNeil Consumer Healthcare has now applied broader criteria to identify and
remove all product lots that it believes may have the potential to be affected, even if they have not been the subject of consumer
complaints.

In addition to the product recall, McNeil Consumer Healthcare is continuing their investigation into this issue and is taking further
actions that include ceasing shipment of products produced using materials shipped on these wood pallets and requiring suppliers who
ship materials to our plants to discontinue the use of these pallets. We will continue to closely monitor and evaluate the situation and
consult with the FDA.

Consumers who purchased product from the lots included in this recall should stop using the product and contact McNeil Consumer
Healthcare for instructions on a refund or replacement. For these instructions or information regarding how to return or dispose of the
product, consumers should log on to the internet at www.mcneilproductrecall.com or
call 1-888-222-6036 (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Time, and Saturday-Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time). Consumers who
have medical concerns or questions should contact their healthcare provider. Any adverse reactions may also be reported to the FDA’s
MedWatch Program by fax at 1-800-FDA-0178, by mail at MedWatch, FDA, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20852-9787, or on the MedWatch
website at www.fda.gov/medwatch.

The affected product lot numbers for the recalled products can be found on the side of the bottle label.

McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division of McNeil-PPC, Inc. markets a broad range of well-known and trusted over-the-counter (OTC) products.

PASTRY SHOE ICONS VANESSA AND ANGELA SIMMONS DONATE TO HAITI EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS

January 21, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab America

pastry-shoes-simmons-sisters.jpg

NEW YORK, NY – Celebrity sisters and Pastry shoe brand entrepreneurs, Vanessa and Angela Simmons, announced their commitment to provide assistance through official Haiti earthquake relief efforts. The powerful earthquake struck Haiti on January 12 and was centered about 15-miles from the nation’s capital, Port Au Prince, causing an estimated 100,000 deaths countrywide.

With nearly 50 percent of Haiti’s population under the age of 18, a donation of Pastry shoes, as well as clothing, will be delivered to the local children. “Being able to give Pastry shoes and clothes to these kids during such a devastating and critical time is our way of helping and showing support when it’s needed most,” shared Angela Simmons.

Contributors to the creation of the popular and successful Pastry brand, the Simmons’ humanitarian efforts will help fulfill the needs of Haiti’s youth who have had their homes destroyed and are without shelter. Vanessa Simmons stated, “We can all do something to help. Pastry has chosen to give Haiti’s kids who are displaced and vulnerable to this heart-breaking situation. We pray that they will overcome this unfortunate and horrible tragedy.

Working in conjunction with the American Red Cross, Pastry’s donation of sneakers and apparel

addresses the urgent need to aid earthquake survivors who have lost their belongings. For children seeking shelter and protection from the elements, the Pastry shoe donation offers sustenance and warmth.

We’re encouraging all Pastry shoe fans and loyalists to contribute and donate to the Haiti earthquake relief efforts,” responded Vanessa. “If each of us do our part, we can make a big difference together,” concluded Angela.

Pastry will continue its corporate social responsibility by actively monitoring developing outcomes in Haiti and adjusting future donations accordingly. “You don’t just give and call it a day,” claimed Angela. “Watching and learning about other ways that we can help, especially in this time of need, is just part of doing the right thing for others.

Haiti Aftershock: 6.1 Earthquake

January 20, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab America

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – A powerful new earthquake struck Haiti on Wednesday, shaking rubble from damaged buildings and sending screaming people running into the streets only eight days after the country’s capital was devastated by an apocalyptic quake.

The magnitude-6.1 temblor was the largest aftershock yet to the Jan. 12 quake. The extent of additional damage or injuries was not immediately clear.

Wails of terror rose from frightened survivors as the earth shuddered at 6:03 a.m. U.S. soldiers and tent city refugees alike raced for open ground, and clouds of dust rose in the capital.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was centered about 35 miles (56 kilometers) northwest of Port-au-Prince and was 13.7 miles (22 kilometers) below the surface.

Last week’s magnitude-7 quake killed an estimated 200,000 people in Haiti, left 250,000 injured and made 1.5 million homeless, according to the European Union Commission.

A massive international aid effort has been struggling with logistical problems, and many Haitians are still desperate for food and water.

Still, search-and-rescue teams have emerged from the ruins with some improbable success stories – including the rescue of 69-year-old ardent Roman Catholic who said she prayed constantly during her week under the rubble.

Ena Zizi had been at a church meeting at the residence of Haiti’s Roman Catholic archbishop when the Jan. 12 quake struck, trapping her in debris. On Tuesday, she was rescued by a Mexican disaster team.

Rather than seeking to place the blame on divine retribution, I suggest that we secular people donate now to relief organizations. I’ll recommend two: The Red Cross is an obvious choice; it’s a secular organization that is dedicated to providing effective aid. I’ll also recommend Partners in Health, which is on the ground right now and has been providing health care to the poor in Haiti for years.

I know this is redundant because many of you have already made donations somewhere…but just in case you haven’t, get off your butt now and help.

WTF: Pat Robertson Says God Is Punishing Haitians?

January 13, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab America

Presented without comment, from 700 Club:

And you know Christy, something happened a long time ago in Haiti and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the
heel of the French, uh you know Napoleon the third and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They
said we will serve you if you’ll get us free from the French. True Story, and so the Devil said OK it’s a deal. And they
kicked the French out. You know, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since they’ve been cursed by one thing
after the other desperately poor.
That island is Hispaniola is one island. It’s cut down the middle. On one side is
Haiti on the other side is the Dominican republic. Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc.. Haiti is in
desperate poverty. Same island. Uh, they need to have, and we need to pray for them a great turning to God and out of this tragedy.
I’m optimistic something good may come but right now we’re helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable.

Ex-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich Says He’s “Blacker Than Barack Obama” !?

January 11, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab America

CHICAGO – Ousted Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich says he’s “blacker than Barack Obama” and tells Esquire magazine that he was a real person in a political arena dominated by phonies.

Blagojevich, referring to the president as “this guy,” says Obama was elected based simply on hope.

“What the (expletive)? Everything he’s saying’s on the teleprompter,” Blagojevich told the magazine for a story in its February issue, which hits newsstands Jan. 19.

“I’m blacker than Barack Obama. I shined shoes. I grew up in a five-room apartment. My father had a little laundromat in a black community not far from where we lived,” Blagojevich said. “I saw it all growing up.”

The White House refused to comment.

The twice-elected Democrat was impeached and removed from office last year after federal prosecutors arrested him on corruption charges that included trying to sell Obama’s old U.S.

100 Dogs & Cats Murdered?

January 08, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab America, Fab Entertainment
Officials are saying 100 or more dogs and cats were dumped in a creek by a former Canton animal control officer accused of shooting and killing them.

Canton Alderman Charles Weems said the Board of Aldermen was presented photographs of several of the animals in various stages of decomposing.

“All I had to see was three, and that was enough for me. It’s repulsive and sickening,” Weems said.

The Board of Aldermen on Tuesday approved the firing of Alonzo Esco after a citizen complaint led to an investigation and discovery of the remains of about 100 animals, Weems said.

Esco worked as the animal control officer for the city for three years. He could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Esco has not been charged with any crime as authorities consider their options for prosecution, Madison County District Attorney Michael Guest said Thursday.

The most Esco likely would face is multiple counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty, which is punishable by up to six months in jail, Guest said. The county prosecutor’s office will proceed with the case.

“At this point, I don’t see anything that would result in any felonies,” Guest said.

Weems said Esco was the only person in animal control, a division within the Canton Police Department. As an animal control officer, Esco could kill animals, but only if they were maimed or a threat to the community, Weems said.

“It’s unbelievable someone could do something like that to these animals,” Weems said “This is worse than Michael Vick.”

Vick played for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League for six seasons before serving 18 months in prison for his involvement in an illegal dogfighting ring. He now plays for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Esco also provided animal control duties for Madison County until the county’s contract with the city expired at the end of 2008, Board of Supervisors President Tim Johnson said.

Johnson said he also was told by someone close to the investigation that more than 100 animal remains were found.

“I’m married to a veterinarian, so this obviously hits close to home,” Johnson said.

Canton police opened the investigation when a woman filed a complaint after a pet she wanted to adopt never turned up at the Mississippi Animal Rescue League.

Assistant Police Chief Bracy Coleman said on Thursday he could not comment.

2010 INCREASE IN EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT!

January 02, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab America

This proposal would increase the earned income tax credit (EITC) for families with three or more children from 40 to 45 percent of qualifying earnings. It would also increase the income range over which the EITC phases out for married couples to $5,000 more than that for single people, up from the 2009 level of $3,120.

· Increases to the EITC focus resources on relatively low-income families, who are most likely to spend the money.

· Marriage-penalty relief furthers efforts started with EGTRRA to keep low-income families from losing their EITC because of marriage.

· JCT estimates that the proposal would cost $4.7 billion over 10 years.

December 23, 2009 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab America

A woman accused of telling the Secret Service she would “blow away” Michelle Obama was in federal custody Tuesday as the Obama family planned to travel to Hawaii.

Kristy Lee Roshia, 35, was charged with threatening a family member of the president and assaulting a federal agent after being arrested Saturday less than two miles from the Kailua home where the Obama family planned to stay during a holiday visit later this week.

Roshia called the Secret Service’s Boston office last month and told a receptionist, “I will kill Michelle Obama” and “I will kill Marines,” according to a Secret Service affidavit.

During the same call, she said she would “blow away” Michelle Obama, the document states.

Update: – We have just found out that the same defacement is appearing at at least one other site, mawjcamp.org. We are not able to see what was at this domain before, but it is now displaying the same defacement that Twitter was only a few minutes ago.

Twitter does not have the best record with security issues. We have previously covered a number of incidents, and as recently as two months ago their web servers were misconfigured to reveal detailed internal network information. We also previously wrote about their admin interface having a password of ‘password’ on one account, and the well-known Twitter doc incident. It was hoped that with the hiring of a new COO, Dick Costolo, as well as a number of other high-level engineers, including security experts, that Twitter had grown out of the phase of being vulnerable to security incidents on such a large scale.

We do not know a lot about the group claiming responsibility for the attack as we haven’t heard their name before and they do not show up in any defacement mirrors or security sites. Similar Iranian groups were active during the election campaign in that country. We have emailed the group (they were kind enough to leave an address on the defacement) for a comment (also added them on Gchat – worth a shot).

Update 2.: Twitter.com is down, status.twitter.com is down. Some tweets are getting through at the moment because parts of the API are up. Search also seems to be working. The Firehose is up – Tweets are coming in from FriendFeed (all those tweets about ‘is twitter down’ are from third-party sites)

Update 3.: It is suggested that if you use the same password on your Twitter account with other accounts, now would be a good time to change your password on those other accounts.

Update 4.: There is a history between Iran and Twitter. It was well noted and covered in the media that Twitter was used as a tool during the Iranian election protests. The US government actually intervened to assure that Twitter was available to the protestors in Tehran and around the country. This attack may be an act of reprisal from groups who were not happy with the role that Twitter played during the protests.

Update 5.: There is speculation at the moment that this may be a DNS redirect, which means that the Twitter.com domain has been redirected to the defacement page. This doesn’t explain why some sub-domains are down, while others are currently still alive (such as search)

Update 6.: Twitter.com is back. The company updated its status blog saying: “Twitter’s DNS records were temporarily compromised but have now been fixed. We are looking into the underlying cause and will update with more information soon.”

Update 7.: Twitter’s Platform Lead engineer Alex Payne has a funnier update on the current status

Man Cuts His Testicles Off To Keep From Cheating?

December 17, 2009 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab America

Luis Alfonzo Sanchez Ortiz, 40, decided that the best way to avoid the temptations of another woman and to stay true to his wife and
religion was to castrate himself. The Columbian farmer, who said that his wife would not have sex with him, thought that the procedure
would be fool-proof. Wrong!

Sanchez says that he has performed castrations countless times on his farm animals. “I’ve castrated pigs, cats, dogs and three
days later they are healed. I thought that is what it was going to be like with me. I had practiced with animals, so I went ahead, put
some pressure on my testicles, and cut them, to remove them by force!”

An admitted devout Christian, Sanchez did not want to continue to pester his wife for sex and absolutely did not want to go seeking
sexual favors from other women. “When I saw that I could no longer count on her (his wife), so that I wouldn’t keep bothering
her, I made the decision to cut my testicles off because I am a Christian and did not want to go look for another partner.”

Sanchez is being treated at a local hospital, and according to one of his attending physicians, his wounds have become infected and
there is a ‘complete absence of his testicles.

Cheaters Can Be Sued Up To $1 Million Dollars!!!!

December 10, 2009 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Fab America

Check out this feature that I found on CNN today. It’s an interesting read, and definitely makes you take a long, hard look at being the other man or woman.

The next time a married man or woman glances your way, you might think twice before acting on impulse and frolicking between satin sheets. The scorned spouse could sue you.

Yes, you read that right. You, the paramour, can get hit with a lawsuit that could cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars.

They’re known as “alienation of affection” suits, when an “outsider” interferes in a marriage. The suits are allowed in seven states: Hawaii, Illinois, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Dakota and Utah.

The law allowing such legal action dates back to antiquated times when a wife was considered the property of a husband. A broken-hearted hubby could go after his wife’s lover – not with a gun, but with the law.

In modern times, the suits are filed for two reasons: money and revenge. Juries in North Carolina have handed out awards in excess of $1 million on multiple occasions.

“If your spouse is going to cheat, you really would like them to cheat with somebody who has a lot of money,” says Lee Rosen, a North Carolina divorce attorney who deals with alienation and affection cases on a daily basis.

And that’s why many legal experts are paying close attention to the Tiger Woods saga. Will his wife go after an alleged mistress?

Were any of his “transgressions” with someone who is married? If so, the jilted hubby might be able to go after the world’s richest golfer.

It doesn’t matter that Woods lives in Florida, a state where the suits aren’t allowed, legal experts say. If any of Woods’ professed “sins” took place in an alienation of affection state, look out.

“If he had been dating a married woman, there could be the potential for a lucrative recovery,” Rosen says. “You’ve got to have a really affluent paramour that makes for a good target.”

The suits rarely make it to trial. Usually, just the threat of such a lawsuit is enough for an out-of-court settlement.

“When folks are getting divorced, the threat of having the person’s new boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife dragged into court and the dirty laundry aired … causes enormous pressure,” says Matt Steffey, a law professor at Mississippi College School of Law.

Mississippi has been racked by a high-profile suit, filed this summer, involving everything from allegations of ski resort trysts to a secret journal ordered kept under seal by a judge.

Better yet, it involves a congressman who once co-sponsored legislation for President George W. Bush to declare 2008 the “National Year of the Bible.”

The son of a prominent federal judge in Mississippi, Chip Pickering was the rising GOP star of the state – hand-picked to succeed Trent Lott in the U.S. Senate. Then, everything unraveled.

Pickering decided not to run for re-election in 2008 after 12 years in the House. At the time, he said he wanted to spend more time with his family. He’s married with five children.

Like a tale from William Faulkner, who penned many a book on Mississippi elite with personal flaws, Pickering’s tumble has been staggering.

“Chip Pickering has fallen far faster than the surrender of Vicksburg,” Steffey says, referring to a key turning point in the Civil War, when Confederates gave up the Mississippi river town.

The real doozy came July 14, when Leisha Pickering filed the alienation of affection suit against her husband’s alleged lover, a socialite named Elizabeth Creekmore-Byrd.

“As a direct and proximate result of the negligent, wrongful and reckless misconduct and behavior of Creekmore-Byrd with Pickering,” the suit says, “plaintiff has suffered damage to the affection and consortium with her husband.”

So hush-hush is the case, lawyers on both sides have reached a confidential agreement to not discuss the case publicly.

The suit, in effect, has branded the once-proud congressman with a Scarlet “A.” “He had certainly fallen from the pinnacle of his professional life and his public life, but it had not yet become a public disgrace,” Steffey says. “And what this lawsuit did is it turned a fall into a disgrace.”
