With under a minute to go, Caleb Hanie threw an interception on fourth down, and with a kneeldown, the Packers sealed their 21-14 victory in the NFC Championship game. They now head to the Super Bowl and will face the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers beat the New York Jets 24-19 tonight in the AFC title game.
In the week leading up to this afternoon’s Bears-Packers game, we heard all the hype about the greatest rivalry ever, about families split over allegiances, that tickets will be goshawful expensive, and that the weather will be cold. Not to mention all kinds of other stories that have something to do with this “Game of the Century.”
The Packers got off to a quick start on the game’s first possession, with quarterback Aaron Rodgers completing passes with ease before running it in himself to give Green Bay a 7-0 lead.
Green Bay continued to control field position through much of the first quarter and turned it into another score, this time on a short run by running back James Starks. That made it 14-0.
The Packers dominated the first half, with the Bear offense struggling and the Bear defense on its heels.
And the second half doesn’t look much better. The Bears escaped one Packer threat with a Brian Urlacher interception, but quarterback Jay Cutler is hurt and Todd Collins is on to replace him.
