A law student in Washington, D.C., home for the holidays, died Monday after he accidentally fell two stories at the Union League Club where he and his father had gone for Christmas Eve dinner.
Eric Fatla, 26, a first-year evening law student at George Washington University who grew up in southwest suburban Frankfort, was pronounced dead at 1:02 p.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy was scheduled for today, but police said his death appeared accidental.
“Eric had already accomplished more than most people accomplish in a lifetime,” wrote his torts professor Jonathan Turley on his blog. “He had gone to China on a research project, gone to Honduras as an election monitor and worked in Congress as a staffer. He was currently with a lobbying and law firm while attending class in the evenings.”
