The Northwest Indiana Times reports: A nine-month sting targeting car thieves attracted 20 men and women who sold undercover police 70 vehicles valued at more than $510,000, officials say. Lake County Sheriff’s Capt. Rick Borchert and another officer posed as a father-and-son team of crooked car dealers buying cars stolen from Illinois and northwest Indiana. Borchert says the thieves bragged about stealing the cars they were driving into his shop.

A man was charged early this morning with shooting a 1-year-old girl, wounding her in the cheek and shoulder, during a family outing, police say.
Tarenzo Dillon, 26, of the 4600 block of South Michigan Avenue, was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm.
Early Monday morning, the girl was sitting in a park in the 7600 block of South Dobson Avenue when a fight broke out between her mother’s current and former boyfriends, police said.

The toddler was hit in the shoulder after an argument between her mother’s
current and former boyfriends erupted into gunfire, police said.
