4 Shootings In Chitown Last Night

At least four people were wounded in separate shootings overnight on

the South and West Sides, officials said.

The first shooting happened on the South Side in the city’s South

Shore neighborhood, police said.

Officers responded about 8:33 p.m. to the 7100 block of South

Merrill Avenue and found a 33-year-old man who was struck in

an apparent drive-by, police said.

Preliminary reports said the man was walking westbound on 71st Street when a vehicle traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed approached. Someone

leaned out of the vehicle and fired several shots at the victim, police said.

The man was taken in good condition to Northwestern

Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to his thigh, police said.

About 11:15 p.m., two people were shot in the city’s

Longwood Manor neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers responded to the 1300 block of West 98th

Place and found a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man

with gunshot wounds.

Police said the victims were sitting inside a vehicle when someone approached on foot and fired shots.

The boy was taken in stable condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to his mouth. The man was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park. He suffered a wound to his leg, police said.

About 10 minutes later on the West Side in the Lawndale neighborhood, a 17-year-old boy was shot in his leg.
