Man dies from injuries in Gresham hit-and-run
A 81-year-old man died Sunday morning after being struck in a hit-and-run accident Saturday, police said.
Jimmy Taggart, of the 6600 block of South University Avenue, was pronounced dead at 3:47 a.m. Sunday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
At about 7:20 p.m. Saturday, Taggart told police he was northbound in the 7500 block of South Halsted Street in his Chevy pickup truck when a small dark-colored car sideswiped his vehicle. The car continued northbound on Halsted Street, police said. The impact caused Taggart’s truck to crash into a pillar of a viaduct, police said. The
Taggart was taken to Christ Hospital were he later died from his injuries, police said.
